Given that he's been producing since the early 2000s, it's perhaps a little surprising to find that this is the debut full-length from veteran Dutch D&B DJ NYMFO. Perhaps he made a conscious decision to wait, because Characters bears all the hallmarks of an album made by someone who's seen the drum and bass scene change and mutate before his very eyes. Musically, it's a diverse album, moving from twinkling liquid D&B to paranoid dubstep via tech-tinged rollers, old skool jungle revivalism, languid ambience and bouncy anthems (see the Hospital style positivity of Black Sun Empire collaboration "Battlefish").
